Grant Gustafson (USA) ist Mitbegründer der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche und war von Anfang an bis 1993 einer der Stammdozenten. Bis 1990 war er Gitarrenlehrer an der Musikschule Herford, dann zog er zurück in seine Heimat und lebt jetzt in der Nähe von Washington. Zum Jubiläum kommt er wieder und wird einen Vortrag über Lautentabulatur halten.

Grant Gustafson (USA) is a co-founder of the Rotenburg Guitar Week and was one of the teachers in residence from the beginning until 1993. Until 1990 he was a guitar teacher at the music school in Herford, then he moved back to his home country and now lives near Washington. For the anniversary, he will be back and will give a lecture on lute tablature.

Koki Fujimoto was born in Tokyo. At the age of three he started to learn guitar. He has been taught by Noboru Muraji, Tomonori Arai, Kiyoshi Shomura and Tsuneo Ema. In 2016, his CD titled "Guitar works by Toru Takemitsu" dedicated to Toru Takemitsu was published. As a composer, he participated in the lessons of Miyuki Shiozaki, Sho Ueda and Sunao Isaji. He received conducting lessons from Masayuki Honda. Now he is studying at the Musikhochschule Köln under Professor Ansgar Krause.
In 2019 he won the 1st prize at the highly demanding International Guitar Competition Heinsberg and will design this year's prizewinner concert.

Elke Köllmann studied guitar and elementary music pedagogy at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Köln (Department Wuppertal) and special education at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen. In her many years of practice, she has led numerous music groups, ensembles and projects of various formats and now brings her experience in the supervision of chamber music groups to the Guitar Week.

Raphaëlla Smits gehört zu den beliebtesten Gastdozentinnen der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche, denn sie ist eine hoch engagierte Lehrerin, exzellente Musikerin und - sie liebt es für alle Teilnehmer zu kochen! Kann man sich Besseres wünschen?

Als die Idee aufkam, eine Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche den hervorragenden Frauen in der Gitarrenszene zu widmen, fiel uns natürlich sofort ihr Name ein. Raphaëlla Smits is one of the most popular guest lecturers of the Rotenburger Guitar Week, because she is a highly committed teacher, excellent musician and - she loves to cook for all participants! Can we have something better?

When the idea came to dedicate a Rotenburger guitar week to the outstanding women in the guitar scene, her name fell immediately. She is the first guitarist to win the prestigious "Certamen International de Guitarra Francisco Tarrega" competition in Spain in 1986. There followed countless concerts and master classes all over the world, as well as many CD productions as a soloist and in chamber music occupations. For the sixth time, they will be guest lecturer of the Rotenburger Guitar Week.

Margarita Escarpa:

"Eine Künstlerin, hundertprozentig!" rief Maria Luisa Anido aus, eine der bekanntesten Gitarristinnen im 20. Jahrhundert, als sie 1990 das erste Mal die junge Künstlerin hörte. Noch im selben Jahr veröffentlichte sie ihre erste CD und gewann noch als Studentin schon acht internationale Preise. Ganz nebenbei schloss sie auch noch ein Studium in Mathematik an der Autonomen Universität Madrid ab. 1994 startete sie eine internationale Karriere, als sie den bedeutendsten Wettbewerb für Sologitarre gewann: den 1. Preis der "Guitar Foundation of America".

Margarita Escarpa ist Professorin am Conservatorio de Música de Vigo (Spanien) und eine international viel gefragte Solistin. Neben zahlreichen internatonalen Kritiken schrieb auch die Rotenburger Kreiszeitung 2012: "Wie Perlen an einer Kette flossen die klaren, reinen Töne in unglaublicher Virtuosität im Kontrast zu den vollen temperamentvollen Akkorden von den sechs Saiten ihres Instrumentes… Margarita Escarpa verzaubert mit meisterhaften Klängen …". Ja, sie ist eine leidenschaftliche Virtuosin auf der Bühne und eine konsequente, doch einfühlsame Lehrerin im Unterricht und deswegen zum dritten Mal bei der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche.

"An artist, one hundred percent!", Maria Luisa Anido exclaimed, one of the most famous guitarists in the 20th century, when she first heard the young artist in 1990. In the same year, she released her first CD and won eight international prizes as a student. By the way, she completed her studies in mathematics at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In 1994 she began an international career when she won the most important competition for solo guitar: the first prize of the "Guitar Foundation of America".

Yes, she is a passionate virtuoso on stage and a consistent, but sensitive teacher in the classroom and therefore for the first time at the Rotenburger Guitar Week.

Hans Wilhelm Kaufmann ist zusammen mit Dirk Lemmermann der Leiter der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche. 1982 begründete er mit Grant Gustafson die Rotenburger Gitarrenwochen. Er unterrichtet an der Hochschule für Künste in Bremen Studenten im Hauptfach Gitarre und darüber hinaus die Fächer Methodik des Gitarrenunterrichts und Relative Solmisation. Als Solist und Mitglied im "Neuen KammerTrio" konzertiert er in vielen Ländern. Durch seine langjährigen Erfahrungen in Kammermusik und Dirigieren ist sein Unterricht vor allem durch musikalische Gestaltung geprägt.

Auf dem Kursus wird er Einzelunterricht erteilen, Kammermusikgruppen leiten, Workshops anbieten und das Gitarrenorchester dirigieren.Hans Wilhelm Kaufmann wird auch einen Workshop über "Neue Gitarrenschulen und -literatur" und "Neue Unterrichtsmethoden" für alle teilnehmenden Gitarrenlehrer anbieten

Hans Wilhelm Kaufmann leads the "Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche" in collaboration with Dirk Lemmermann. In 1982 the guitar week was founded by him and Grant Gustafson. He teaches students at the University of Arts in Bremen in the main subject guitar and guitar method.  As soloist and member in the "Neues KammerTrio" he gives concerts in many countries. Due to his extensive experience in chamber music and conducting his teaching is characterized primarily by musical interpretation.

At the course he is going to give single lessons, leads groups of chamber music, offers workshops and conducts the guitar orchestra. Hans Wilhelm Kaufmann will hold a workshop about "New Guitar Schools" and "New Music for Guitar"as well as "New Teaching Methods" for all participating guitar teachers.

Dr. Dirk Lemmermann ist langjähriger Stammdozent und zusammen mit Hans Wilhelm Kaufmann Leiter der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche. Er studierte in Berlin Gitarre, Schulmusik, Germanistik und Musikwissenschaften. Als Gitarrist ist er hauptsächlich in Kammermusikensembles aufgetreten ("Team Telemann"). Als Dirigent leitete er Aufführungen größerer Werke für Chor und Orchester (Kantaten, Oratorien) in Berlin, Bremen, Hannover und Frankfurt. Als Musiker und Komponist des Kabaretts "Phrasenmäher" hat er zahlreiche Tourneen, Radio- und Fernsehaufzeichnungen gemacht. Zur Zeit ist er als Musik- und Deutschlehrer an einem Gymnasium in Offenbach tätig. Auf dem Kurs gibt er Einzelunterricht, betreut Kammermusikgruppen und das Gitarrenorchester und leitet - wenn dazu noch Zeit sein sollte - für interessierte Teilnehmer einen Chor. Aber leider kann er dieses Jahr aus terminlichen Gründen nicht teilnehmen.

Dr. Dirk Lemmermann has been lecturer at the course for a long time. He leads the "Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche" together with Hans Wilhelm Kaufmann. Dirk Lemmermann studied guitar, music education, germanistic philology,  and musicology in Berlin. As guitar player he mainly gave concerts as part of chamber music ensembles ("Team Telemann"). In Berlin, Bremen, Hannover, and Frankfurt he conducted performances of more extensive works for choir and orchestra (cantatas, oratories). As musician and composer of the cabaret "Phrasenmäher" he had numerous tours, radio- and TV-productions. At the moment he teaches music and German at a grammar-school in Offenbach.

At the course he is going to offer single lessons, to lead chamber music groups as well as the guitar orchestra, and - if there might be time – he may offer a choir for interested participants.

But this year unfortunately Dirk cannot participate at our festival due to scheduling reasons. So > Jessica Kaiser sponaneously agreed to fill in for him.

Jessica Kaiser

gehört zu den interessantesten Gitarristinnen der jungen Generation. Beim Internationalen Gitarrenwettbewerb in Budapest 2017 überzeugte sie die Jury mit ihren sehr ausdrucksstarken Interpretationen, die weit über eine oberflächliche Virtuosität hinausging. Schon in den Jahren davor hat sie erfolgreich Wettbewerbe absolviert: so gewann sie 2009 bereits als 16-jährige den 1. Preis beim Anna-Amalia-Wettbewerb in Weimar, zwei Jahre später im Andres-Segovia-Wettbewerb einen 2. Preis. Sie studierte bei Thomas Müller-Pering an der Musikhochschule Weimar und jetzt bei Paolo Pegoraro an der Universität Graz (Österreich). Außerdem ist sie eine leidenschaftliche Kammermusikerin und absolviert zahlreiche Konzerte im Duo mit der Geigerin Johanna Ruppert und im Gitarrenduo zusammen mit Jakob Schmidt.

Beim schon erwähnten Budapester Wettbewerb erhielt sie - zusammen mit der ungarischen Gitarristin Lotti Szalai - den Sonderpreis der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche als beste Teilnehmerin. Weil unser Stammdozent Dirk Lemmermann dieses Jahr nicht bei der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche dabei sein kann, hat sich Jessica Kaiser spontan bereit erklärt einzuspringen, worüber wir uns sehr freuen.

Jessica Kaiser

is one of the most interesting guitarists of the young generation. At the International Guitar Competition in Budapest in 2017, she convinced the jury with her very expressive interpretations, which went far beyond superficial virtuosity. Already in the years before she had successfully completed competitions: in 2009 she won the first prize at the Anna Amalia Competition in Weimar at the age of 16 and a second prize in the Andres Segovia Competition two years later. She studied with Thomas Müller-Pering at the Musikhochschule Weimar and now with Paolo Pegoraro at the University of Graz (Austria). She is also a passionate chamber musician and performs numerous duo concerts with violinist Johanna Ruppert and guitar duo with Jakob Schmidt.

Together with the Hungarian guitarist Lotti Szalai, she received the special prize of the Rotenburg Guitar Week as the best participant in the Budapest competition mentioned above. Because our regular lecturer Dirk Lemmermann cannot attend the Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche this year, Jessica Kaiser spontaneously agreed to step in, which we are very happy about.

József Eötvös

József Eötvös wurde in Pécs im Jahr 1962 geboren, studierte an der Franz-Liszt-Musikhochschule in Weimar bei Roland Zimmer und studierte Komposition bei Franz Just.

Er gibt regelmäßig Konzerte in vielen Ländern der Welt: unter anderem in Österreich, der Tschechischen Republik, Griechenland, den Niederlanden, Polen, Litauen, Deutschland, Rumänien, der Schweiz, Schweden, Slowakei, Liechtenstein, Japan und Singapur.

Jószef Eötvös unterrichtet als Professor seit 2002 an der Franz-Liszt-Akademie in Budapest. Es ist der erste Lehrstuhl für Gitarre auf Universitätsebene in Ungarn. Er gehört zu den angesehensten Dozenten der internationalen Gitarristenszene und ist Leiter und Gründer des International Guitar Competition in Budapest und des Budapest International Guitar Festival. Wir freuen uns, ihn zum ersten Mal als Gastdozent begrüßen zu können.

József Eötvös

József Eötvös was born in Pécs in 1962. He graduated at the Franz Liszt College of Music in Weimar as the student of Roland Zimmer and studied the art of composing from Franz Just.

He regularly gives concerts in several countries of the world: he has played, among others, in Austria , the Czech Republic, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Romania, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia, Lichtenstein, Japan and Singapore. He is invited to perform both solo concerts and orchestral concertos. He has made radio and television recordings both in his home land and abroad.

In his master courses, which sometimes concentrate on Baroque and chamber music, he carries out excellent music pedagogical activities. He is a regular jury member of international guitar competitions and the artistic leader of the International Guitar Festival in Esztergom and the Balatonfured International Guitar Festival. In his concerts, besides his own masterpieces and arrangements, the popularization of 20th century and contemporary Hungarian music plays an important role. (Among others: the works of Barna Kováts, Ferenc Farkas, Máté Hollós and Iván Madarász.)

He is the first time at the Rotenburg Guitar Week.

Tatyana Ryzkova

Die 1986 in Weißrussland geborene klassische Gitarristin Tatyana Ryzhkova ist eine der vielversprechendsten jungen Gitarristinnen der Welt. Auf YouTube gehört sie inzwischen zu den klassischen Gitarristen mit den höchsten Klickraten. In über 400 Konzerten in allen Erdteilen erspielte sie sich ihre große Fangemeinde durch eine packende live Performance mit einer Mischung aus Virtuosität, emotionaler Hingabe und sympathischer Unterhaltung.

Neben klassischem Gitarrenrepertoire spielt Tatyana auch eigene Kompositionen mit selbst geschriebenen Texten. Ihr Gesang, ihr Gitarrenspiel und der Text verschmelzen dabei zu einer wundervollen Einheit. Das ist einzigartig in den Konzertsälen der Welt. Als Dozentin ist Tatyana das erste Mal bei der Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche.

Tatyana Ryzhkova

The classic guitar player Tatyana Ryzhkova, born in 1986 in Belorussia is one of the most promising young guitar players of the world. Meanwhile, she has the highest click-through rates on YouTube among the classic guitar players. In more than 400 concerts on all continents she won a large fan community due to her fascinating life performance with a combination of virtuosity, emotional dedication and friendly conversation.

Besides the classical guitar repertoire Tatyana plays also her own compositions, for which she writes both lyrics and music. Her vocal, her guitar-playing and the lyrics are melting into a brilliant entity. That is unique in the concert halls all over the world.

As a teacher she is the first time at the Rotenburge Guitar Week.

Pavel Steidl

ist ein großartiger Musiker, Gitarrist, Komponist und Pädagoge. Das renommierte "Classical Guitar Magazine" schrieb einmal treffend: "Er ist ein Gitarrist, der weiß, wie man zur Musik lachen kann und teilt diese Freude mit seinem Publikum". Sein Spiel ist wie eine Theatervorstellung, so lebendig wird sie beim Vortrag. Und genauso lebhaft geht es in seinem Unterricht zu. Er hat schon vier Mal die Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche mit seinem Besuch bereichert, gepielt, unterrichtet, Kammermusikgruppen angeleitet und sogar gekocht. Wir freuen uns, dass er wieder dabei ist.

Pavel Steidl

is a great musician, a guitarist, composer and teacher. The prestigious "Classical Guitar Magazine" once wrote: "He is a guitar player who knows how to laugh with the music and share the joke with his audience." His performance is like a theater performance, so vivid is his playing. And just as lively it comes to in his classes. He has been four times at the Rotenburg Guitar Week, played recitals, taught, guided chamber music groups and even cooked. We are delighted that he is back.

Thomas Müller-Pering wurde 1958 in Köln geboren und erhielt mit zwölf Jahren ersten Unterricht auf der Gitarre. Von 1975 bis 1980 studierte er an der Musikhochschule in Aachen bei Prof. Tadashi Sasaki und besuchte parallel zahlreiche Meisterkurse, u.a. bei John Williams, José Tomas, Oscar Ghiglia und Siegfried Behrend.

Neben seiner Lehrtätigkeit an der Aachener Musikhochschule - seit 1980 leitet er dort eine eigene Klasse - gibt er Meisterkurse im In- und Ausland. 1997 erhielt er eine Professur an der Musikhochschule Franz Liszt in Weimar.

Neben solistischen Auftritten und Veröffentlichungen ist er ein engagierter Kammermusiker und tritt immer wieder im Zusammenspiel mit anderen Instrumentalisten in Erscheinung - so in gemeinsamen Auftritten oder Produktionen mit Rebecca Montoya, Bettina Löns, Wally Hase und Michael Faust (Flöte), Gorjan Kosuta (Violine), Ansgar Buchholz (Vibraphon & Marimba), Caterina Lichtenberg (Mandoline) und im Albéniz-Guitar-Duo mit Burkhard Wolk. 1991 wirkte er als Duo-Partner von Manuel Barrueco bei dessen Gesamteinspielung der Danzas Espanolas von Enrique Granados für EMI mit.

Thomas Müller-Pering ist seit 1999 Stammdozent der Rotenburger Gitarrenwochen.

Thomas Müller-Pering was born in 1958 in Cologne and got his first guitar lessons at the age of 12. From 1975 to 1980 he studied at the University of Music in Aachen. His teacher was Prof. Tadashi Sasaki. According to that he visited several master classes with John Williams, José Tomas, Oscar Ghiglia, Siegfried Behrend and others. Numerous awards and prizes, like in 1982 in Munich at the ARD-Competition and in 1983 at the "Concurso Internacional de Ejecución Musical" in Vine del Mar, Chile, where he received the first prize, followed.

Beside his work as teacher at the University of Music in Aachen – since 1980 he leads his own class there – he gives master classes in Germany and foreign countries. In 1997 Thomas Müller-Pering took on a full professorship at the University of Music "Franz Liszt" in Weimar.

Since 1978 his concert tours regularly lead him to the different countries of Europe, North-, South-America, Cuba and North-Africa. In Japan he published two CDs and in 1988 as one of the first guitar players he recorded a 60-minute video-recital. Beside solo performances and publications he is a dedicated chamber musician. He worked together with Rebecca Montoya, Bettina Löns, Wally Hase and Michael Faust (flute), Gorjan Kosuta (violin), Ansgar Buchholz (vibraphone & marimba), Caterina Lichtenberg (mandolin) and played in the "Albéniz-Guitar-Duo" with Burkhard Wolk. In 1991 Thomas Müller-Pering played together with Manuel Barrueco working on his recording of "Danzas Espanolas’ " by Enrique Granados for EMI. Since 1999 Thomas Müller-Pering is lecturer of the "Rotenburger Gitarrenwoche".

Hans-Werner Huppertz debütierte 1990 mit dem 1. Preis beim internationalen Gitarrenwettbewerb „Seto Ohashi“ in Okayama/Japan und dem 2. Preis beim 33. internationalen Wettbe­werb in Tokyo. Seither konzertiert er weltweit als gefragter Solist und Kammer­musiker, ist Dozent zahlreicher Meisterkurse und Jurymitglied bei internationalen Wettbewerben.

Ein wichtiger Aspekt in seiner künstlerischen Arbeit ist die Auseinandersetzung mit dem originalen Repertoire der Gitarre, das er u.a. durch Anregungen neuer Werke ständig zu erweitern sucht. Entgegen dem allgemeinen Trend, buntge­mischte Programme auf CD zu pressen, widmet sich Hans-Werner Huppertz auf seinen Einspielungen jeweils nur den Werken eines Komponisten, u.a. von Dome­nico Scarlatti, Francisco Tarrega, Manuel Maria Ponce und Federico Mompou.

Neben seiner Konzerttätigkeit ist er Professor für Gitarre und Mitglied des Direk­toriums an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Standort Aachen. Als künstlerischer Leiter betreut er das Musikfestival „AquisGranGuitarra“ und die angesehene Kammermusikreihe “Accordate” in Aachen.

Hans-Werner Huppertz springt für den erkrankten Künstler Johannes Monno ein und übernimmt auch dessen Dozententätigkeit bei der Rotenburger Gitarrenwo­che. Zum Ende der Kursarbeit wird er zusammen mit dem Dozenten Thomas Mül­ler-Pering den Solopart im Brandenburgischen Konzert Nr. 6 von Johann Sebasti­an Bach spielen. Die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer der Rotenburger Gitarren­woche bilden das Gitarrenorchester und werden die beiden Solisten begleiten.

Our guest lecturer Johannes Monno unfortunately had to cancel due to a serious and probably prolonged illness. We deeply regret that and wish him all the best and good recovery.

But fortunately we have found this morning an equivalent replacement and we are very grateful to Hans-Wener Huppertz, who can take over its duties to the full extent. He will play the opening concert, as well he will coach the lessons of Johannes Monno and even at our Guitar Orchestra Project "Brandenburg Concerto no. 6" he will take over the solo part of Johannes Monno. That's just great!

We can be quit lucky under this circumstances and we feel very sorry with Johannes Monno. But we can offer an equivalent replacement and the guitar week can take place as planned.

Johannes Monno

In his life, Johannes Monno is trying to achieve a balanced combination of artistic, scientific and pedagogical work. He intensively cooperates with the artists like Kolja Lessing, Wilfried Jochens, Ingo Goritzki or Olaf Van Gonnisen and meanwhile devotes his time and energy to the ensemble Rilegato, which he co-founded with a charango player Diego Jascalevich. As a soloist he regularly gives performances in his country and abroad. He has released 3 Solo-CDs so far and has taken part in various chamber ensemble recordings. If the time allows him to, he likes to perform as a continuo player.

His pedagogical career started at the Academy of Music in Hamburg where he used to teach guitar interpretation, methodics and didactics. Next he was teaching guitar history and continuo interpretation for guitarists at the Academy of Music in Frankfurt. In 2004 Johannes Monno was appointed Professor at the Music Academy in Stuttgart where he leads a very succesfull guitar department and teaches guitar history.

Dirk Lemmermann ist für die Pressearbeit zuständig, außerdem kann er am besten mit den Einheimischen reden - auf Platt.

Elke Pütz ist für die Finanzen zuständig, außerdem organisiert sie die Privatzimmer, sie denkt sich die Küchen-Familien aus, kümmert sich um den Einkauf und überhaupt.

Viola Weiser organisiert die Organisation, d.h. sie schreibt auf, was sich der Vorstand ausdenkt; erstellt die Stunden- und sonstige Zeitpläne, kümmert sich um die Details und bereitet den Kursus nach, z.B. auf Youtube oder Facebook.

Hans Wilhelm Kaufmann is the art director of the festival and invites guest lecturers and is responsible for the big picture - unless he is just on teaching ..

Dirk Lemmermann is responsible for the press work all throughout the year. Also he's the connection to the locals, being able to speak their language – Low German.

Elke Pütz is the treasurer of the organisation. Above that she makes sure every participant and teacher has a nice stay, including the organisation of rooms, the food and the shopping.
